The ClapMachine

Now this one was a funny one. My friend and bandleader of the Coronas needed a machine that could trigger a ‘Clap’ sample and look like two actual hands clapping. I have a drumkit in my workshop and took the Hi-hat pedal, which provides up-and down movement. Then I had to design a mechanism that could convert the up and down into a clapping motion. I drew comic hands on two polyurethane foam plates. That was the easy part.

The mechanism was harder to make. It had to be really sturdy. I designed it in 3d and printed it. Then put it all together using nice chrome adjustable pushrods from the toolshop and Allen screws.

A bit hard to explain, but now you stomp on a hi-hat pedal, and at the same time two foam hands clap together. it would make a great mosquito swatter if you link it to a microphone and a microprocessor. But hey… I’m only the guy with the ideas. Call me up!
