Souva, a female robot head

In may 2023 I was asked to come and talk about robots @Dutch Innovation Days, in Enschede, Holland, where I was joined by three other independent robot designers. We all brought our robots and answered questions, sat on a couch. I brought my Botsy Robot there. I drove out there a night before and stayed in a hotel, where I could do some last minute tinkering before the big show.

We had a really nice showcase and when I came home I decided to start a new build, SOUVA (short for Soaring Over Uncanny Valleys Amicably, but I might trash the name and come up with something else altogether soon) which is a female robot less than half the size of my previous robot head.

I would say she looks afro-asian.

Like I said in a previous post, this head is really well balanced, the mechanisms are countersprung so it’s much lighter on the servos. Apart from that my eye mechanism is much more advanced. Here’s a quick servo test:

I have some very promising ideas for the skin, which I’ll share here. So keep coming back for updates! In the meanwhile watch me in the Dutch Innovation Days showreel.
