Adventures of Indica and Mary-Jane Greenleaf

I read a LOT of comics when I was a kid.

My drawing style suggests that I do comics, but it took me until 2015 to actually start doing one.

Being somewhat affiliated to George Clinton and P-Funk, I went to one of their concerts in Amsterdam, at the Paradiso, in 2014 and was invited backstage, where I was greeted by Kendra Foster-This was a while before she started writing songs for d’Angelo and performing in his touring group.

She walked up to me and mentioned my good friend Fabian Dech, who had told her about my illustrations.Kendra invited me to her dressingroom and told me all about a secret comic book she wanted me to make.

Kendra and Shonda Clinton – George’s granddaughter-  toured all over the planet with Funkadelic and being avid buddhasmokers (well at least back then) they’d have to devise special methods to ensure a good puff-and-pass, whether in Tokyo or in Australia.

During those smoking sessions they felt like secret agents who had to test-smoke specimens of the finest weed on the planet and they came up with aliases and wrote a storyline for a comic-book named ‘The adventures of Indica and Mary-Jane Greenleaf’.

A lot of Skype sessions with Kendra and Shonda Clinton, pencils, empty Sharpies and lots of A4 paper sheets later, I’d drawn 22 pages of the book, put in lots of plot-twists, and being a big classic comics fan I decided to hand letter all the text.

My friend E1 Ten helped me clean up all the hand-drawn text after I taught him how to use InDesign. The project is on ice right now, other endeavours took up our time.

I hope one day we can pick up where we left off!
